I am so glad you came to visit my blog! My name is Sandi Moore and I have been into fitness and healthy eating most of my adult life. Of course, I do have a treat here and there but it is not my way of eating daily.

I have a sister who is a year younger than me. We were raised by our father who was 50 years old the year I was born. We are from a small town in Illinois. Our dad ended up having a heart attack when I was just 11 and he woke me up in the middle of the night to let me know something was wrong. That was the beginning of my journey into wellness. It was slow but sure.

Our dad lived another 11 years thankfully and he passed away at 72. He ate pretty healthy but had a habit of taking laxatives. I tried to tell him one day that he was hurting his heart but he couldn’t stop taking them. I learned a lot of things from my experiences with my dad and watching what he did to his body. I wish I could have stopped him from doing that to himself but it wasn’t meant to be.

I learned a lot from working at my first job, which was in the kitchen at a nursing home. I was the assistant cook. I made desserts and side dishes. They trained us on diabetes and what the patients could and couldn’t have. We also learned what substitutions we could make if they wanted a dessert such as ice cream.

We had to remove their bread for that meal so they could have their treat. I also saw what that disease did to some of them. Some had their foot amputated or poor circulation due to diabetes. It really makes you think about your own health when you see that. You know it is preventable.

I am saying all that to say this: taking care of yourself is your responsibility. Start today, don’t wait until something happens to you and you have to do something.

Exercise, eat healthier, drink more water. I will have so much more to say in later blogs but for now I will leave you all with this.

May God bless you and put you on a healthier journey!
